Hey there.
I would like to discuss a coping method i used for some time, which was both a good and a bad idea but at least had the effect of giving me some more time to think.
Essentially when one lives with bad feelings every day, life becomes a real challenge. But when they become so omnipresent it is possible to learn to change their negative impact rather than trying to remove them, since they just seem to never go away....
It is possible to enjoy things like pain and fear to some extent. It is possible to feel good about on OCD. And when removing the evil is out of one's reach then what's so wrong about embracing it, right ?
Well, a few things. First off when you get too used to it...it's even more present. One might, with time, forget that the problem is there in the first place. And you don't want that.
Second it merely postpones the problem as the feeling is still there, still omnipresent... the ultimate aim being to get rid of those negative feelings, accepting them won't help much.
However, you will know that fighting against a part of yourself with all one's strength is both exhausting and desperate. You cannot win a war against yourself...and once you see that you get depressed as there seems to be no way out of the problem.
Also, daily stress is bad for your physical health. It will kill your sleep and overwhelm the body with cortisol...not good. Not to mention the feeling itself is undesirable.
So what one can do is learn to enjoy all those negative things. The frist thing it will do is help you regain control. Mixed or positive feelings don't get in the way of regular thoughts and centralise all of your focus. One can still think about other stuff at the same time. Second, it will remove the idea that fighting is pointless as one is no longer constantly fighting an impossible war. In general, it gave me more time and 'mental space' to keep looking for better solutions. While at the same time it made the whole rest of my life more viable. When i started enjoying fear I felt relieved of its power. It no longer prevailed over all else, like hunger and sleep for instance.
What's your approach on the question?
