2017 Hyundai Elantra. Got over 40 mpg on a recent trip of over 300 miles with 4 full size people and luggage. I got 45 mpg on a long highway drive by myself. Around town is down in the 30s. For about $18k they come pretty fully loaded with all the luxury toys and some traffic detection safety features.
