I see what you mean. But I guess it depends on the severity of the illness and the type of job
I get to work from home whenever I want. I'm also a software engineer, so there really aren't too many deadlines that I have to meet, which makes the job quite lax. And prior to that, I worked in a research lab. The only deadlines were conferences, and most of us only did 1-3 conferences a year. So basically no deadlines there either.
So for me, the lack of stress lets me hold a decent job, which in turn lets me get a decent salary. Just an example from me
