As a general rule of thumb, I think people who identify medication as being personally helpful should continue to take medication as they deem it to be helpful.
There are, of course, numerous concerns. All medications come with side-effects and some of the drugs used to treat "mental illness" carry a particularly big whollop. I'm not surprised that your parents are concerned--it's what caring parents do.
I suggest you sit down with your parents and research the pros and cons together. That way, you understand their concerns and they understand why you find medication to be helpful at this time.
