Seroquel is very sedating, knocked me out to a level I was not able to function. Everyone reacts different but it is pretty across the board the Seroquel is one of the most sedating mood stabilizers commonly prescribed. I would not take it just for sleep, that is not what is it meant for, it is a heavy duty mood stabilizer that affects your body in many ways. Around me (I live in the rehab capital of the country) it was on the news for a while with doctors all getting sued for prescribing Seroquel as a sleep aid for people who do not need it as a mood stabilizer. I don't know if it was just big news here or if it everywhere. Guess there are still doctors out there prescribing it just for sleep though.
I know the hypnotics that most people take for sleep do not work the same way with someone who is bipolar, they are very ineffective. Talk to your doctor about what is keeping you up. For me, it is usually anxiety so if I treat the anxiety at night I am able to get to sleep.
