I was downright offended some years back when my general physician suggested I try antidepressants for the first time, without any suggestion of therapy whatsoever. Her reason? "You sound like you might have OCD. Try this, and see if it helps." I wasn't offended at the suggestion that I have OCD, but at the fact that a general physician (in my country) can just prescribe SSRIs with the snap of a finger. No consultations. No followup with a therapist. Just take this drug. If it doesn't work, take another one.
