I have taken low dose pain meds on and off for several years. I get EXTREME pain so my situation might be different. When in pain, Without pain meds I can't move, am confused and so, so sick. With pain medication I can think clear and do some things. It only takes the pain down about 50% and I cannot take more or I vomit.....but something is better than nothing. I've never once gotten high or felt different at all when taking the pain meds.....never taken more than needed and take less actually. It's so interesting how differently people react to medications....I'm always amazed!!! If I didn't get sick to my stomach I'd use more when needed. I've not had interactions with my psych meds that I'm aware of.....the psych meds work the same when I take meds vs when I don't.

I'm sorry you are hurting and might need surgery. I'm sure that is very scary. I'm a belieber in taking as few meds as possible, however there is no honor in suffering so if you have severe pain and it effects your quality of life, try the meds but keep a lookout for warning signs of abuse or interaction.
