I wish I could tell people that they won't get hurt if they trust someone, but the truth is when you start to trust someone you are opening yourself up to the possibility of hurt. Now we could shut down completely, not trust in any shape or form and end up with nothing. If we do open up to anyone new, then the worry is, if this will then be used against us!

But we will get hurt again. It's something that we can't escape. Hurt can be from many things. Loss of a loved one, a pet, betrayal and/or abuse by people we thought we could trust and depend on, religion, politics, weather, they are all factors that can emotionally hurt us. I think PTSD/CPTSD heightens that feeling of trust/expectations are a bad thing and to avoid to protect. Maybe finding that healthy balance is the key here.
