Hello all,
I am having a lot of trouble at the moment coping with the events of yesterday. My dad called me at about 6:30pm yesterday stating that my sister had called him and wasn't making any sense. As background, she has had at least two psychotic breaks before, one of them severe enough to be hospitalized and diagnosed with bipolar 1 with psychotic features. She has not accepted that diagnosis and doesn't believe anything more than common depression is at ply. When I got to the house (thank god she was still there) she was fully delusional and had absolutely no concept of reality and was saying things about people dying or having to do certain things to make sure everyone would be safe. She asked me if I was there to save her and if I would take her where she needed to go. I said yes and me and my wife drove her to the hospital whwere we barely convinced her to come in and verbally commit to admitting herself. Then she threatened a security guard and was as a result admitted for 72 hours at a psych hospital in town after several hours of hospital staff looking for a bed. I basically am asking if I did the right thing, because seeing her that way was extremely upsetting and how I can convince her that she needs to get evaluated for medication so this doesn't keep happening every 6 months to year. I am struggling with going to go see her today because I'm afraid to see her psychotic again and hope she won't be mad at me. Please help. How can I convince her to take medication?
