Going thru the same thing with my sister. She goes off her meds and gets psychotic. The problem is she's 31 and in my state they make it super hard to commit someone like that

Yes you did the right thing I believe. I know some are against forced hospitalization but I've been there. My sister was finally committed January of this year for threatening to stab and kill my mom. She's been out and doing well for a while now but I've noticed her slipping some.

The helpless feeling really sucks
And being scared. And just sad, you know, to see that.
