I admit to enjoying being slightly hypomanic when it is the giddy kind. With my last major med change, I thought that was going to be my new normal as I went about two months in that state. Then I crashed into the crying kind of depression, which I usually don't get. It seems my med change had an effect on both ends of the spectrum. I hated the bottom end.
Here is something interesting about your question. I am closing on 60 and have had symptoms of or diagnosed (23 years ago) bipolar disorder most of my adult life without any period of what I think stability is; I always have head fog and am either depressed or hypomanic, usually just slightly to moderately depressed. While I would love to experience life without any of the symptoms, I am not sure what that will be like anymore. Which personality is the one that sticks when I am stable? What if I am able to stabilize and never get as happy as I am when slightly hypomanic?
