I have never done EMDR, even though c-PTSD has been a primary diagnosis for me since I was a teen. My various pdocs (through the years) have advised against my participation in EMDR. They've felt my traumas have been too extensive and felt it best nobody "poke around" in the trauma material.
I do not know what type of treatment is best for anyone.
I've had two friends become seriously re-traumatized by the process, became very suicidal and needed hospitalization. On the other hand, I've heard people say EMDR has changed their lives for the better.
As far as I know, there are lots of people swearing by EMDR and lots swearing against EMDR.
I am sorry there's controversy around this. I wish some approach was a clear-cut path as the best healing approach for all.
I am glad your therapist has advised you to look into EMDR, because I think it's very important anyone participating in EMDR (and other approaches) is 100% on board.
