Some Pdocs have their personal favorites when it comes to meds. I would open the conversation about meds with "I've been doing some research and I'm wondering this med will help me."

I'm concerned about you taking meds that were not prescribed for you. That's a dangerous road to go down. I hate to say this but if you tell the doc that you have been taking vivance on your own, it's almost guaranteed that they won't give to you for fear you will abuse it. (Which is what you're doing at the moment)
