I know that if anyone read my post in creative corner about my Christmas then you know that it was really hard for me this year. However, while I was at church today the visiting pastor (actually seminary student) did a speech on the Christmas Letdown. The funny thing is it took me till just now to put two and two together. The story goes like so...
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, King Herod heard that the Messiah had been born. Fearing the worst for himself, he ordered that all infants under the age of two be slaughtered. This is very sad. However we view the birth of Jesus as one of the happiest times in modern day religion, but we leave out the part about the infants. Why is this? Because the Christmas story is supposed to make us happy...if we thought about the infants then the story would not be the story it is now. When I heard this today I started thinking about things...I was really not with my family this Christmas...and that made me sad...but I got to watch my kids see their new bikes...this made me very happy. So even though the Christmas story is followed by something horrible, we still view it in a good light. As I think about my Christmas, I am reminded that I can remember about the birth of our Savior and be happy, or I can think about the infants, and be sad.
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, but it only comes once a year and there are always sad times before it and sad times that follow it. The one thing that we need to remember is that Jesus was born...if I keep remembering that then the sad things that follow me in my life will have no measure in my life. I have turned my soul over to God, and I am leaving everything in His hands.
May God bless you all!
