ATAT's post about her husband's possessions gave me the idea to poll the couch about my dilemma. For background, my abusive husband is currently in jail after he set our house on fire and is awaiting resolution of his current legal difficulties. Meanwhile, I'm trying to put my life back together after all this. I have literally all of his possessions because he was buck naked when they hauled him to jail. I've started packing up his clothes and started trying to divide up the stuff we've accumulated over the years. I have all his important documents like social security card and birth certificate. What am I supposed to do with all this stuff? He may be going to prison for a long time. The minimum sentence for arson in our state is 7 1/2 years. Am I obligated to be the keeper of his things from now on? He's not on good terms with his family and they live on the other side of the country. His only friend wouldn't have room to store his things for him and doesn't live here either. I really don't know what to do. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me?
