Could you be testing him? I know that's something that came up with my MC. Like...do you still accept me now that I've done this? How about now? Like kids and teens do with their parents. I think I've gotten past that stage with him now, for the most part. But I realize I do it with friends, too, like, "I told you this weird thing about me--do you still accept me?"
