Shattered.... if you're afraid of getting "old" at fifty and feeling like your life was a waste....try being already 62 and in that boat

Sorry it made me laugh... I don't mean to invalidate your fear.
I'm just saying I understand.

My biggest fear is being elderly and unable to care for myself. I can't rely on my daughter because she is mentally ill and abuses hard core drugs. (Meth, heroine)

She is violent, abusive and has threatened my life on numerous occasions. I'm terrified that I would be at her mercy. I have a living will that specifies that she is NOT to be involved in any decisions regarding my health care and finances. That gives me some comfort.
