That is one of the reasons that some people take issue with the idea that low seratonin is the cause of depression and perhaps other issues. There is no blood test that can identify a person who has low seratonin. The theory goes that if additional seratonin helps, then you must have been low to begin with.

So, no. There isn't a defined "low".
