I could probably get them to assign me a t but I have no choice in the process, I'd be stuck with whoever they assigned. As for social workers? Ha! They have closed two hospitals and are in the process of merging two others. If you need ER psych service they set you up on line cause like I said there's one one pdoc in the area. I'm on Medicare Medicade but even if I had private insurance my choices wouldn't be great here although I could probably go out of area to the closes city and get a pdoc.
Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this, Nammu.

Many, many areas in the U.S. do not have adequate care.

I live in a fairly "good" area and in the richest county of my state. We have a Medical School, too. Yet, there are not enough pdocs, not enough beds in the local public hospital, no local private hospital, etc. Much of the care is being done by Primary Care providers; they are not well-trained for the responsibilities of a pdoc.

Many pdocs are retiring and new med students specializing in psychiatry are less in number, as well as are taking more administrative jobs when possible (due to the cost of repaying their student loans).

Mental health care in the U.S. is failing and is likely to get worse.
