The problem is that one of the biggest disappointments (marital problems) is likely to result in incredible stress if I address it or continued disappointment if I don't. So it isn't just a "let it pass" disappointment. Frustrations with how a couple of my kids are turning out is one I do need to let go. They are basically young adults now and I really can't change the course of their lives at this point. But I think about these things and get despondent and put them out of my mind because it feels so much like depression. It's one of the reasons I used drink while depressed.
