Careful with the "don't take them." When I found meds that worked somewhat, but wanted my mania anyway, I told the Dr and others that things were fine but knew they weren't working. I have a provider now that is a truth machine. She can look at me and tell my states, even when I was still suicidal after hospital but told her I was fine and even smiled. I stopped lying about it with her at that point and things got real
