Oh geez. I wish I had advice about backstabbers at work, but they just pulled one over on me. I guess the best way is to document everything. Keep really good records of everything going on.
Going to HR or your manager is tricky. They are going to want to protect the status quo and the company. If you have a specific situation that you can point to, you might have grounds to go to your manager, but if you don't have specifics, I wouldn't go to them just yet. Start documenting then take a specific situation of something they did to your manager.
