I don't think it is bad at all; I throw things away that I should take somewhere because I'm too anxious to take them somewhere (thinking someone will criticize me for giving them away or not want them because they're not good enough, etc. :-) but I imagine other people just don't have the time, energy or interest to take them somewhere?

If you know the neighbor at all, you could go chat with them, tell them you took them and ask if they have anything else they'd like taken to Goodwill or other places as you know moving is stressful and time consuming and you'd be happy to help?

My stepmother use to get out and get things she saw in people's trash; paintings, etc. she liked and my father-in-law was a painter but never bought frames, he just collected them from other people's trash. I think older people who lived through the Depression were better at "recycling" than we are, even today with our plastics/newspapers, etc.
