All you need to do really is just keep it in check. When you feel that you are starting to show signs of sadism, just stop what you're doing and take a second to "restart" and chill. This may not work for you, (I'm not sure as it differs from person to person), but it has worked slightly well for me. I hope this was helpful even in the slightest.
