Here is Florida, anything in the trash is "fair game" for the taking. In fact, many of us put things out the day before for those who drive around taking and fixing things so they can sell them for income. I also give to the Salvation Army because they help so many people in so many ways!

BTW it's only some of the affluent that don't consider others when giving things or tossing them, just like regular folks some of which don't.

I think, for me, it is a combined effect of not having a lot when growing up, and most certainly my Girl Scout background that taught me to be thrifty!
