Work has been very stressful and about to get more stressful. The search for a manager for my sub-team has not led to any qualified candidates so far and we just found out that the manager of another sub-team has taken another job. She handled a huge amount of projects and kept tight control of them so we are kind of foggy on where most of them stand. I'll probably take over some of them.
Then on top of all that, rumors have been circulating about our division chief drinking on the job for several months. I took it with a grain of salt because I didn't see anything specific myself. But earlier this week I smelled alcohol on his breath at 9:00 am and then in a meeting he was having a hard time staying on topic and appeared to be at least mildly intoxicated. I don't want him to get fired. I don't know who they'd put in charge of us if that happened, but two options I can think of would be horrible for us. I feel like our team is imploding.
Oh well, what can you do. One day at a time.

Wow, that is a lot to deal with at work. Remember though mouthwash, Listerine strips, and diabetes also gives a sweet , or alcohol smell to the breath. Also a blood sugar issue could cause the confusion. You may want to ask him, if he does that again, if he's okay.Or if he has sugar issues. That would let him know you were noticing something different without accusing him of the alcohol. It may very well be alcohol, but other things may mimic that as well.
The other positions may be a problem though. I hope you can find replacements for them soon.
So happy that your daughter is doing so well. Must make you proud to see the child you raised blossoming into this wonderful young woman. Good job!!!!
