in ohio (i dont know if they do this anywhere else), people who have had (i think) 2 DUIs, have to have a license plate that is yellow instead of the normal white ones. So everyone knows "you drink and drive". theyre called "party plates" and it really does embarass people. especially because people driving by them always want to look inside and see what the dumbass who drinks a lot looks like.
so i think there is something to your comment about public humiliation or making them be known. they do have to register as sex offenders but only if they do certain crimes or do them enough times. you can go to your county website and look up all the sex offenders in your area but how many people either know you can do that or know your county's website? they do send out postcards letting you know when a sex offender has moved into your neighborhood, but i know most people throw post cards away because they either are from the post office or have the "have you seen me" on the back.
maybe they, whoever they is, should think up a way to make the knowledge of these websites more known in the country so that people could look them up. but honestly, i think when youre in the act of the crime, you dont consider the consequences. thats whats wrong with these people.
ive been arrested and i never once though "this could land me in jail." i still drank underage and even drove home. i still smoked underage. i drove a car without my license. and they make crimes like this in commercials! they advertise these crimes letting you know how much trouble you can get in. so i think the only people who would benefit from deterrent of jail are people who still have a conscience. and people who really sexually abuse their kids like that... i dont think they do. people who would be effected by those commercials would probably talk themselves out of doing it anyways and attribute their feelings to being sick and then possibly blame themselves like crazy. there is something mentally wrong with people who do these things and thats why i dont think they should be killed. its the same reason 10 year old who kill get off of death. their brain is screwed up to some extent and they obviously cant use reasoning skills. so i think that rehab or sever psychiatric help would be better suited. maybe even housing them in a mental institution.
the problem isnt that they dont get killed, the law does absolutely nothing to them. any kind of punishment or help at all would be an improvement. i know in montgomery county in ohio, you practically have to kill somebody to be put in jail. there was nothing i could do about my ex hitting me and threatening to kill me. he just walks around the same everyday. so i think any kind of action would be improvement over what there is now.
