These are 3 things I can remember saying that really made him sit up and take notice, or react very strongly emotionally.
1) "Sometimes I don't know who you are when I come here. Are you my therapist today?"
That comment really got my T's attention! I swear his ears swiveled forward like a horse's.
2) "I'm having trouble with the frame." (the therapeutic frame)
Same reaction--immediately attentive, ears swiveling forward. LOL
3) "I plan to tell my husband I want a divorce by handing him the papers."
(This is what my lawyer had told me to do.) T seemed to get really pissed off about this to me. He was, frankly, appalled. At the next session, I told him he had seemed appalled, and he said, you're right, I was appalled. And then we explored that.
