It is legal where I live and there is a huge variety available in terms of strength, and even a half decent selection nowadays of cultivars with either full CBD and minimal THC, or a blend at different ratios from 3:1 to 1:1 to 1:3. There are also vaping and edible products which allow finer dosage control.

CBD is an extremely interesting substance. By itself it causes little to no high or major mental effect, but it can be very good for physical discomfort of almost any kind, for med withdrawal and withdrawal from addictive drugs, and for anxiety. I'm a very skeptical and scientific person. I don't tend to believe that random herbs I take are curing me for example. But CBD seems to hit some sort of master switch for discomfort. You may still feel whatever was bothering you, but your mind wanders away from the unpleasant sensation much more easily and for much longer.

CBD also alters the high from the THC in marijuana, greatly reducing anxiety and paranoia for many people, and making the high less activating. As somebody who has smoked a lot of weed in my life and who can be sensitive to it, I would describe the high from a 1:1 ratio to be "pillowy" and easygoing.

Recreationally I do not allow myself to smoke before 7pm. Some days though I get into a state I call "deadlock" where I am anxious and irritable about not getting anything done but I cannot make myself do anything to save my life. It's terrible. Eventually on those days I give up and smoke a little, fairly low THC and high CBD. My mood very often improves and I'm able to do some stuff. And due to the low THC I am not super high. However, it still messes with my short term memory so if I've smoked myself out of deadlock, I'm going to stick to different kinds of tasks that don't need memory on point as much.

Cannabis is a drug just like any other, no matter what the hippies say. It often has benefits and it always has costs. People who experience depression do need to be cautious.
