Therapy is certainly not only for those deemed as 'well'.
It sounds like he was frustrated by what he saw as lack of progress (I might be wrong but that is how I am reading it) but he conveyed that in a very abrupt and inappropriate manner. It really was not okay to judge a client as 'endearing' or otherwise.
From what I have read lack of progress with clients is one of the hardest things for a therapist to cope with, but there can be many reasons why. Certainly if you did not trust him sufficiently I would say that would be a major factor.
PS - edited to add like Purple,Violet,Blue I also had a positive experience of therapy, but mine was an NHS contracted therapist. A relative saw the same therapist but did not find it helpful. Sometimes it's dynamics, lots of things play into the mix.
