I think asking for a PRN dose would be considered good self-care, not a bad thing and not a reason to increase you.

I just increased my AD and was concerned it would trigger a manic episode. So I asked for permission to increase my AP if I needed to. My pdoc was really glad that I was taking care of both problems with one contact and that I was being pro-active.

Asking for the PRN is pro-active, especially since it helps you function more normally on tough days. Everyone, pdocs included, know that Zyprexa is hard to tolerate as the dose goes up and most want to keep you at the lowest dose to help prevent metabolic side effects. It's usually quite ok to have a PRN dose and a regular dose to make that happen.

I did Seroquel that way for a long time and it wasn't a big deal.
