My therapist once told me that she had seen people who are able to get to a place of acceptance fairly quickly, while others take a long, long time. That grief and bereavement, especially when mixed with trauma, requires a heroic amount of patience when allowing the process of acceptance to work.
Personally, I almost take offense when someone tells me to "just accept it," or "just let it go". I don't like the implication that it's as simple as making a choice not be bothered by our issues. It takes a long time for acceptance to happen, in my experience.
