The medication I take that is surely the most useful for my sleep is my 600 mg of Seroquel XR. If I'm stable I sleep about 8-9 hours. Occasionally I wake up at 3 am or something, but usually only to go pee or eat a small snack (ff low sugar yogurt) and then go back to sleep. I have to say that over the years Seroquel XR doesn't make me as sleepy as quickly as it used to. I take it at about 7 pm and don't get sleepy until 10:30 or 11 pm. Regular Seroquel tended to make me sleepy faster, given it's higher and quicker "spike".
With Seroquel XR, if I have to get up before 8-9 hours of sleep and/or if I take it much later than 7 pm, I will experience a morning "hangover". That's pretty uncomfortable. Sometimes I press the snooze button in a half sleep and oversleep. Sometimes I get up, but it seems almost painful. Too little sleep with the necessity to get up too early makes me a VERY cranky woman. I've been known to punch the coffee maker, throw dishes on the table, and roar.
If I've been in a manic episode, doses lower than 600 mg of Seroquel XR affect my ability to sleep. During those times I might sleep 5 hours or less and miraculously wake up feeling utterly refreshed and ready to bake muffins and dance around the kitchen.
