It’s just difficult for me to understand how things got so bad and whether or not I’ll be able to recover back to at least where I was 4 years ago. Trying to remember a day where I was happy is pushing it, but at least 4 years ago I was proactive and higher functioning.

If it helps I’ve had a psychotic and mental breakdown a few years back and with a lot of help trying to understand myself I was able to identify BPD. Drugs and alcohol have always been a problem since age 14, but now it’s almost impossible to cope without.
In my own experience drugs and alcohol made my bpd symptoms so much worse and my lifestyle very chaotic. Even though I've stopped drinking and taking drugs I have a lot of cravings for it at times. Lucky for me I've moved and lost contact with people I can get drugs from , drink I can get but I just haven't even though I would like to I know it will make things worse .

Medication is another thing that can help treat symptoms of BPD , but its probably less affective with drink and drugs .

Therapy too can help.

I understand drink and drugs being a way to cope because I used them for the same reason. I also understand feeling that you need it .

Have you ever considered giving up drugs and alcohol ? It would be difficult at first and you would need support . I found na and aa meetings helped . your life could become much more stable and you could focus on getting the help for your BPD .
Thanks for this!
