I don't know. For professionals... it's just their job. Once it's done, they have no reason to care one way or the other. For family & friends, I suppose it's just that you fulfill a need they have & your departure would create a hole in their lives. That's understandable. My personal experience has been that once the crisis is past, everyone simply does their best to forget about it.

My personal opinion is that there are somewhere in the vicinity of 7.5 billion humans on earth. So we have a few members of the species to spare. If someone really does want to die, I think it's little short of cruel to force them to keep living. But that's just my personal opinion. I know it's not shared by the majority of people on the planet.
