I'm sorry your session didn't go well :-(
I wonder if you guys could figure out some kind of signal. A kind of a 'time out' for when you feel like he is talking at you and not listening to you. I had a therapist who tried to help me figure out a signal for when I was feeling emotionally distressed (because I wasn't so good at showing that sometimes) - and it helped. Maybe this could help you guys?
