Online is one thing, because you're interacting with others in a controlled environment in which it is easy to be anonymous, and you can step away at any time.

However, regarding any need for contact with others in 3D, I'd beg to differ. Having distractions and hobbies help a lot. I find I am more bored than lonely, and start to feel depressed when I feel bored. Not for any lack of human contact.

I find 'things' (hobbies and interests) far more fulfilling than I do personal relationships.
