It happened literally at our house, but I turned it into a metaphor. What I mean is, just because someone else's problems are worse doesn't mean we should ignore our own.
My husband and I were both sick at the same time. It turned out that I had a severe cold, and he had pneumonia. Yes, his illness was more serious than mine. Yes, he needed stronger medicine and more time to recover.
Because he was sicker than I was, this didn't mean I wasn't sick at all. I still needed to treat my cold, so I would be up to the task of helping him treat his pneumonia. If I had ignored my own health, and told myself my little itty bitty cold wasn't worth worrying about because he's the one who's really sick, I might have gotten sicker. And then what good would I have been to him?
