I have friends over every year - we have done it for about the last 20or so years with only one break that I can remember when I went to be with my dad right after my mom had died. I make the turkey, dressing and other vegetable dishes I like, friends bring whatever they want, and some of them go off to their family later in the day or are coming from a family breakfast - basically we have a middle of the day respite from families while eating some turkey - which I don't even really like - so I will send the leftovers home with others.
