I relate because I once called CPS on my sister's (now former) best friend. Both my sister and her friend were furious with me, but when **trigger warning** you see a belt bruise on a two-year-old's thigh, you don't just ignore it. My sister's friend openly acknowledged that she had put the bruise there, and she wasn't even sorry. "Yeah, he was bad, so I whipped his...."
Of course I called, even knowing my sister was going to hate me for it. Eventually she came around. It took a while, but eventually she ditched that friend.
If I had it to do over again, the only thing I would change would be not giving my name. It turned out she already had an active CPS file, was having an affair with her very corrupt CPS worker, and he told her who called.
