Unfortunately all medications can stop working. I had a "good" med stop working after just three months. It's annoying to say the least. And yes to we're different, Buspar actually gave me anxiety. Back in the days when I took it they said you must take it with an SSRI for it to help, but I think they changed that and give it on its own or part of another combo.
