I was told if I wasn't ready, to go out and do more "research".
In your case you may be sitting on the fence about your drinking. You've got nothing to lose by trying AA. It worked for me tho at first I struggled. What I learned tho was once I surrendered I was set free. Free from not liking myself, free from the bondage of having to drink to be "normal", free of the negative consequences my drinking created.
Some of us struggle at first. Alcohol has become our "best friend". Just keep trying to "put the plug in the jug". Don't give up. You will be glad you didn't. I wish you well. Being sober is the greatest gift I've ever given myself and also to my loving son.
