here where I am the pharmacies do not call the client when they need a prior authorization. they call the prescribing doctor who puts in a new prescription. with everything computerized now it doesnt take but a few hours to a few days for insurance companies to see the form the doctors/ psychiatrists and pharmacies have faxed to them. I think the longest I have had to wait for a refill was a week.
I usually keep track of how low my meds are getting, when I hit 7 days left I call in to the pharmacy. this gives them the time needed to notify my treatment providers and insurance company if a new prescription / prior authorization is needed. by the time I have one pill left I have already received my text on my cell phone that my meds are ready for pick up.
many pharmacies now have auto -refill service where every month they automatically do the process and all a person has to do is wait for the text that their meds have been refilled and ready for pick up or delivery. (every pharmacy in my city has this)
maybe you can check with your pharmacy to see if they have these kinds of set ups. this way any time any of your meds get down to seven days left you call in, or they put you on their auto fill listing where they do the whole process and all you have to do is go pick them up when you get the your meds have been refilled text.
this way you wont have to go through this problem anymore. this is what has helped me not have to worry about my meds any more and I am never with out my meds even when they need that prior authorization that my insurance requires for some of my meds.
