The superego handles the right or wrong of your concerns then. Its content is supplied by parental dos and don'ts, academic learning, religious conviction, federal, state and municipal laws, etc., etc., etc., and so on and so forth. The baser instinct is the Id. Its content is supplied by basic needs of eating, sleeping, defecation, urination, and getting one's genes into the gene pool etc., etc.,etc. The ego mediates between the two and in this case might go to the higher power for the correct answer. If the ego fails to act, then the id is positively apt to take control--it is the "animal instinct." Ever heard the phrase, "you animal"? That's where it likely came from.
