So about two weeks ago I tripped over the welcome mat outside my house and face planted into the deck. My foot was in excruciating pain but I just thought I had sprained it really bad. But the pain wasn't going away so yesterday I went to the ER and they told me that I had actually broken my foot. This whole time I had been walking on a broken foot

It's a non-displaced foot fracture, and it's a clean break all the way across one of the bones. I suspect the 5th metatarsal because that's where it hurts. The ER doctor never told me which bone was broken. I've been told by many people that I should've been put in a cast rather than a CAM boot but that's what the ER doctor gave me, plus crutches. I'm not able to see a doctor until January 5th for my follow up visit. I'm adjusting pretty well to the CAM boot but the crutches are hell. I wasn't given any instructions about if I can take off the CAM boot to drive or sleep so I just keep it on 24/7 unless I have to shower, that's the only time I take it off.
If you have ever broken your foot can you help me out a little with some advice? What should I do until I can see the doctor on the 5th?
