He probably purposely tried to say something to hurt you because you were the one that first broke up. The male ego is fragile and it seems like for some men once you have connected romantically they are all in or all out. Sorry you are feeling badly--falling for people can be an emotional rollercoaster. There must have been some good highs for a while since he was able to make you feel this low! Time will heal the wound eventually.
