I don't always crash after a hypomania or even a full blown mania. Sometimes my psychiatrist helps bring me down to normal again and I stay there. I have had many times when I was manic, then stable for a while, and then became hypomanic or manic again. Please work with your psychiatrist to slowly bring you down, then be optimistic while practicing healthy living skills and incorporating positive experiences. Maybe that will prevent a fall into depression.
I know that we don't all have the same flavor of bipolar (and I don't mean just bipolar 1 vs. 2, but how it operates), but it is always worth the efforts to fight what would previously be inevitable. I'm trying to change the course of my illness. I think that we do have some degree of control if we do the right things at the right time.
