Personal Opinion: This is one of several "right" forums for what you are saying.

Guess: No action or inaction on your part could have prevented parental/maternal unit rejection. Considering your maternal unit, I fear it was bound to happen eventually.

Your acceptance or rejection that interpretation of what happened, however, in no way relieves any of the agony.
