That guy sounds like he was really talking about himself. Like you said, he knows literally nothing about you as a person, so for him to say all that is very strange. Personally, I like to call these people out on behavior like that.
I had a similar experience on a game development Facebook group. I asked a simple question, and got a helpful response, and then a second response being very rude and blunt, saying that I took a horrible screenshot or asked a stupid question or whatever, I forget the specifics. I told him that he could have actually helped me, without being so rude. He responded with more rudeness and even some sexism, saying that I should be useful and cook something (because it was Facebook and he could tell I'm a girl). I called him out for being a sexist troll, and lamented that people online think that it's okay to be openly rude and insulting when giving "feedback". I closed Facebook and didn't bother to read any more responses and went to bed.
Apparently, my notifications told me there were a lot of responses from various people on that thread, but they were all removed. I also got a personal message from one of the admins on that Facebook group apologizing to me for my negative experience, and that he kicked out the trolls and offered his own help for any further questions I have. He was nice.
Anyway, my point being, there seems to be some negative, aggressive energy in gaming cultures, as well as many other areas of the internet, so don't let it bother you too much. They're insecure and looking for somebody to pick on besides themselves.
