Well... I don't know if this is really going to be of any great help to you in your situation. But when I can't sleep, or when I can't get back to sleep after having awoken in the middle of the night, I get up & do walking meditation. I walk around-&-around our dark & quiet home focusing light attention on each foot as it touches the floor. Thoughts come-&- go. I allow them to arise-&-fade at their own pace without getting hooked & carried away by them. I hear the sounds of the city in the distance. I'll typically walk for at least an hour... sometimes longer. I enjoy this so much that when I haven't done it for a while I actually start to miss it.
